Questions

What is the minimum down payment in Calgary?

Five percent on the first $500,000 and 10% on the portion from $500,000 to $1.5M. So a $500,000 home needs $25,000 down; a $700,000 home needs $45,000. Homes over $1.5M require 20%.

Can newcomers buy with less down?

Yes. Major banks offer newcomer mortgage programs that accept as little as 5% down and use alternative credit (rent, utilities, international history) when you do not yet have a long Canadian credit record.
