Dog-Friendly Calgary

Calgary Homes Near Off-Leash Dog Parks

Every guide says Calgary has 150+ off-leash parks. Only 12 are fully enclosed. Search live listings by distance to the ones that actually work for your dog.

Calgary · Off-leash proximity search

Calgary has 160 off-leash areas covering 1,151.9 hectares — one of the most dog-friendly cities in Canada. Every guide will tell you that.

Here is what they leave out: only 12 of those 160 are recorded by the City as fully enclosed. If your dog does not recall reliably, that is the only number that matters — and it changes which neighbourhoods actually work for you.

So this page does the thing a list of parks cannot: it searches live MLS listings by how close they are to an off-leash area, and lets you restrict that to the fenced ones.

Find homes near an off-leash area

Live Calgary listings, filtered by straight-line distance to the nearest City of Calgary off-leash area.

Distances are straight-line to the centre of each off-leash area, not a routed walk. A river, a rail line or Deerfoot between you and the park will not show up in that number — check the map before you rely on it.

The 12 fully enclosed off-leash areas in Calgary

Straight from the City's own fencing records. If you have a dog that bolts, this is your shortlist — and it is a lot shorter than "150+ parks" suggests.

Read the fencing note, not just the label. "Fully fenced chain link adjacent to Marquis de Lorne Tr SE" still means a busy road on one boundary. And 72 of the 160 areas have no fencing recorded — that means the City did not log it, not that the area is open. Walk it before you trust it.

The big regional areas

The destination parks — where people drive to, not walk to. Larger, more interesting for the dog, and almost all unfenced.

Buying with a dog? Two things worth knowing before you offer

If it is a condo or townhouse, the bylaws decide, not the listing. Calgary condo boards commonly cap dogs at 20–35 lbs, limit the number of pets, and restrict guardian breeds — and under Alberta's Condominium Property Act a board can change those bylaws by majority vote. Existing pets are usually grandfathered, but only with proof. I pull and read the bylaws before you write an offer, not after.

If it is freehold, check the fence, the yard grade and the gate. A "fenced yard" in a listing can mean three-foot chain link a determined dog clears in one go. It is a five-minute check at the showing that saves a five-figure landscaping bill.
