Search homes for sale near schools

Live listings, filtered by straight-line distance to schools in the Alberta Education register.

This shows schools NEAR a home — not the school it is zoned for. Alberta does not publish attendance-area boundaries as open data, and school boards redraw them most years. Living beside a school does not guarantee a place in it. Always confirm the designated school with the board before you make an offer: CBE · Calgary Catholic · Rocky View.

Want to hear the day something lists near your school?

Tell me the school or catchment you are aiming for and I will watch it for you — when a home comes on within walking distance, you get a note from me, not a daily digest of every listing in Calgary. I will also check the current attendance area and enrolment cap with the board, which this page genuinely cannot tell you.

No spam and no drip campaign — a note when something lists near that school, and nothing else. Unsubscribe any time. Bangla • Hindi • Urdu • English.

Faith-based schools — and the part most families are never told

Several of Calgary's Islamic schools are publicly funded, not private. Alberta Education lists them under public school divisions as faith-based alternative programmes, which means no private-school tuition — alternative-programme fees apply under the Education Act, but that is a different thing entirely.

Francophone schools across all five communities

Francophone education is not the same as French immersion. Immersion is a programme inside an English board, open to anyone. Francophone schools are a separate school system for rights-holders under section 23 of the Charter. Most Calgary school guides cover immersion and miss this entirely.

Questions

How do I find homes for sale near a specific school in Calgary?

Use the search above: choose a walking distance, the school system you need (public, Catholic, charter, francophone or private) and a grade level, and it filters live MLS listings to homes with a matching school within that range. It covers 690 schools across Calgary, Airdrie, Chestermere, Okotoks and Cochrane.

Does buying a house near a school guarantee my child gets in?

No. Proximity and attendance area are different things. Alberta does not publish per-school attendance boundaries as open data, boards redraw them most years, and popular schools cap enrolment and redirect students to other buildings regardless of how close you live. Always confirm the designated school and current capacity with the school authority before you write an offer.

Are there Islamic schools in Calgary that are publicly funded?

Yes. Alberta Education records Calgary Islamic School (Akram Jomaa and Omar Bin Al-Khattab campuses) and Green Dome Islamic School under public school divisions, operating as faith-based alternative programmes within the public system rather than as private schools. Alternative-programme fees can still apply under the Education Act, but this is a different funding model from private-school tuition. Almadina Language Charter Academy is a publicly funded charter school with an Arabic-English focus and no tuition.

What is the difference between French immersion and a francophone school in Alberta?

French immersion is a programme inside an English-language school board and is open to any student. Francophone schools are a separate school system for rights-holders under section 23 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, generally families where a parent's first language is French, who was educated in French in Canada, or who has another child educated in French. FrancoSud operates 13 francophone schools across these five communities, including in Airdrie, Okotoks and Cochrane.

Can non-Catholic families attend Calgary Catholic schools?

Calgary Catholic School District generally accepts students of all faiths, though enrolment priority, programme access and fees can differ for non-Catholic families and vary by school. There are 133 separate (Catholic) schools across these five communities. Confirm eligibility directly with the district for the specific school you are considering.

What are charter schools in Calgary and do they cost money?

Charter schools are publicly funded, tuition-free schools that operate independently of the local board with a specific educational focus. There are 29 charter school campuses across these communities, including Foundations for the Future, Almadina Language Charter Academy, Calgary Arts Academy, Connect Charter, Calgary Girls' Charter School, STEM Innovation Academy and Calgary Classical Academy. They enrol from anywhere rather than by catchment, and most maintain waiting lists.

How is the distance to school on this page measured?

It is a straight-line distance from the listing to the school address, converted to minutes at a 4.8 km/h walking pace and rounded up. It is not a routed walking distance, so it does not account for rivers, rail lines, major roads or the absence of a safe crossing. Use it to build a shortlist, then check the actual route.
