What is the mortgage stress test in Canada?

Lenders must qualify you at the higher of your contract rate + 2% or 5.25%. So even if your rate is 4.79%, you must prove you could afford payments at ~6.79%. This calculator applies that automatically.

What are GDS and TDS ratios?

GDS (Gross Debt Service, max ~39%) caps housing costs as a share of income. TDS (Total Debt Service, max ~44%) caps housing plus all other debt. Your maximum is whichever is lower.
