Months of supply is how long the homes on the market would take to sell at the month’s pace. Getting into Calgary

The two towns sit on opposite sides of the city, so the better commute depends on where you work.

  • Airdrie is north of Calgary on Highway 2. The middle of its listings is about 26 km from downtown Calgary in a straight line.
  • Chestermere borders Calgary’s east side, off Highway 1. The middle of its listings is about 16 km from downtown in a straight line.

Straight-line distance is not drive time. Before you choose, drive the route at the hour you would commute, in both directions.

The lake, and the new communities

Chestermere is built around Chestermere Lake, and being on or near the water changes what a home costs there. The guides to homes near the lake and docks and boat rules cover what to check. Airdrie has no lake; what it offers instead is more choice at lower prices, including the attached homes above.

Both towns are adding communities, and builders are active in each. Who is building where is on the town pages for Airdrie and Chestermere, and every new build on the MLS® is on the new build search.

Schools

Public schools in both towns are run by Rocky View Schools. School names, which schools serve which communities, and the Catholic options are in the Airdrie schools guide and the Chestermere schools guide. Confirm the designated school for a specific address with the school board before you buy.
